Small business ownership is a cornerstone of the American dream. Building something from the ground up is celebrated in our culture. When someone chooses the right industry at the right time, they can shift their family story for generations. Unfortunately at this time in America, building a dream rooted in care for others does not appear to be the path to generational wealth – or even stability. I have an actively operating child care program in Denver that is located in one of the lowest income areas of the city. I set this program up knowing that we had a program, CCAP, which operated for decades with no interruption and supported families of the income level my program serves in accessing quality child care.
